One of the first activities of our year is an "All About Me" project. We write our first essay and bring in "Me Bags" (decorated bags with items that explain who we are and what is important to us.)
I guess it is only fair that I do the same as my students. :~)
I have been teaching for 23 years. I started my experience as a 2nd grade student teacher in Orland Park School District. I had a fabulous cooperating teacher that was so supportive and provided tons of guidance. Thank you Anna!
My first professional job was as a paraprofessional in a cross categorical special education classroom. We taught 4th and 5th graders with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. I learned SO MUCH from this experience! A lot of these strategies I still use in my classroom to this day.
I then got my own classroom for the first time, teaching 1st graders in Chicago at a parochial school. I loved their excitement and zest for learning. We had so much fun learning! I was so proud of how far they would advance in a year. My years in the city were awesome. I had the pleasure of working with some very fine people and students.
My next experience was teaching in Frankfort at Indian Trail School. I "graduated" to 3rd grade. I was a little apprehensive teaching 3rd grade after teaching those 1st graders for so long. I was pleasantly surprised! Third graders are the best! They still love to learn like 1st graders, but you can have those more in depth conversations with them.
One of the highlights of my career are the awards I have won. I was nominated as a Golden Apple teacher in 2015 and in 2016 I had the honor of becoming a 2016 state of Illinois Those Who Excel, Teacher of the Year finalist. I am in the top ten teachers in the state of Illinois!
I am passionate about teaching. I love to engage my students in a variety of differentiated activities and love to share them here with you!
Thanks for stopping by to see what we are up to! We appreciate it!
