I love how my students connect to what we are learning. They do it all the time. In this case, we were reading a story about Roberto Clemente, the pride of the Pittsburgh Pirates. One of my students brought in some of his baseball cards that her father had. The kids thought that it was really cool, some of the kids thought that he wasn't a real person. This just cemented it for them! We made some pop up biographies of sports figures to focus on traits and motivations of characters. A home run!
