Our spring STEM was Weather and Climate. We looked at weather patterns by looking at the local newspaper forecasts (Thanks, Tom Skilling!) We monitored the forecasts every day and compared them to actual temps and conditions. The students found out that the further out the forecasts were, the more inaccurate they become. We had a great discussion as to why that happens. M is looking at Skilling's forecast and comparing it to his notes. We created a word splash on Weather. We brainstormed words we already knew. Day by day we added words when we learned them. This one was quite full! We also learned about weather tools such as thermometers, wind socks, anemometers, and rain gauges and were able to try them out. We learned the different types of clouds in the sky and recorded what type they were each day. All in all it was a great unit to study, especially at this time of year! Comments are closed.
